My mission is to create original ceramic arts for the 21st century in one-of-a-kind and limited editions that appeal to a new generation of art enthusiasts and collectors. The initials, WTG, which once identified me in the chronology of artists associated with Rookwood Pottery, now represents my signature-brand line of original ceramic creations.
Studio ceramists have today replaced factory-style art potteries and have stretched the clay medium to new levels of expression, blurring the lines between craft and fine arts. I believe that clay has a future as well as a past, just as everything old is new again. No art form has survived the ravages of time with as much impact as that of ceramics. From early Egyptian to pre-Columbian pottery--both utilitarian vessels and images--attest to the importance of clay as a durable statement of cultural identity and human imagination.
As a sculptor, I like the flexibility of clay and have made it my chosen medium. In this age of toxic synthetic materials, clay is safe, natural, environmentally sensitive, affordable and durable; perfectly aligned with the current economic imperative. I believe that ceramic arts have achieved legitimacy in the world of fine arts today and offer vast unexplored potential for creative imaginations.
